This weekend we went up to Kentucky to visit the Adkins family and got snowed in with about a foot of snow. It is so beautiful. We went out and played in it yesterday and did some target practice as well. We saw a gorgeous cardinal fluttering around Todd's deer feeder hoping to score some lunch.

This year we were in KY for Thanksgiving and so we celebrated Christmas and Thanksgiving with the Adkins family in November and then we were in NC for Todd's birthday and Christmas in December. It was great to see all of our family and spend time with them. We are so blessed by our families and all God has done in our lives.
We celebrated Todd's 32nd down in NC with the Baldwin family. Because of his new obsession, I decided to make him a hunting cake. He loves chocolate, so I made a checkboard cake out of triple chocolate fudge and milk chocolate cake batters. I was afraid we might have a forest fire with the trees and candles and sure enough after I lit them and turned to walk into the den to surprise him one of the trees caught fire. I yelled and quickly blew it out. It was pretty hilarious and I'm sure if we had caught it on video we would have made it on AFV! He loved the cake and it was delicious if I do say so myself. :)
Many of you may or may not know that Todd is now obsessed with hunting. He went with his friend Todd Phillips in December 2006. That trip reminded him of his days as a young redneck and since then he has had hunting fever. That's all he talks about, it's what he looks at on the internet, we now subscribe to at least 2 different outdoor magazines and he recently ordered a book about bear hunting! Needless to say, it is his hobby! Back in March he went to Kentucky and began building a deer stand on his parents' property (the family farm). This isn't just any deer stand, it is what I call a "Man Fort" a.k.a. an "Oversized tree house for men." Here are a few pics so you can grasp what I am talking about.
McLean and Frontline launched its internet campus at the end of 2007 and you can now see the services online. Check it out at www.frontlinedc.com or www.mcleanbible.org and click on internet campus. McLean services are at 9 am and 10:45 am Sunday mornings and Frontline is Sunday evening at 5:30 pm.
So it's time for a long overdue update on the Adkins. A lot has happened since I went raspberry picking with the Rumbaughs! :) It is now 2008 and I have a few months to catch you up on.
2007 was a good year. It was tough though with the struggle we had with Todd's back. He originally injured in in January of 2003 and had trouble on and off with it, but last February he re-injured it and was struggling to walk. He had some PT and it got a little better. Then this past fall the pain started going down his leg and got worse, so we had another MRI and this time they said it was time for surgery. We are currently in NC recovering from this past Friday's operation. He is doing well. The surgery went great and the pain in his leg and back is gone. He is just feeling soreness now and taking it easy. We praise God for taking care of us and for providing a great doctor to do the surgery and for being able to be with family through this. The recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks. He can be up and around, but just can't lift anything heavier than 10 lbs. The good news is he can wash dishes again! :) Please pray that he will recover quickly and regain strength in his back and legs soon.
Frontline Arlington has now been going for a year and is a success. They consistently have around 450 people a week. Over 100 people have accepted Christ and many new small groups have been started praise God. Todd has begun to transition out of overseeing the campus and is now the Executive Director of Frontline.
Amy has been at the law firm for over a year and a half now and still enjoys it. Her job is such a blessing!
McLean just lauched another campus this past Sunday out in Loudoun County. They had two services and 1300 people attended. We pray this new campus will reach many more with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Uptown campus that Todd was helping to start has been put on hold right now as there are zoning issues with the property and our request to have service there has been denied. We are appealing that decision currently. Even though we haven't been able to start the campus we are able to start community groups and reach out to the neighborhood. Please pray for God's will to be done with this campus.
I went out with my girlfriend Kristy and her two girls, Ally and Lexi a few weeks back to pick red raspberries. It was a gorgeous day and the berries were delicious. I think the girls ate all of theirs before we got back to the car. They are too cute! We had a great time.
This past weekend Amy's parents and grandparents drove up to visit with us. We had a great time. It rained all day Friday, but Saturday we were able to go into the city and see the sites.
BubbleShare: Share photos - Share your baby picturesSaturday we went out to Bluemont, Virginia with our friends Dan and Clarissa to a fall festival (even though it felt like summer). We had some BBQ, watched the pig races, took a ride out to the pumpkin patch (a.k.a. mowed over corn field with pumpkins placed in it) and just had fun. Unfortunately we missed P-Rex the pumpkin munchin' dinosaur. He chews too fast!
Fall is our favorite time of year...the cooler weather, the beautiful colors of the leaves, fall festivals, apple cider and its when we got married. We found a fun festival the first weekend of fall and went canoeing, apple picking and stopped at a couple cute antique stores.
This past Friday, Todd and I decided to get away for the night and went out west to Middleburg, Virginia and stayed in a bed and breakfast. It was wonderful. Just getting out of the city into the countryside felt so relaxing! The B&B was very fun and the hosts were awesome. They made us dinner reservations at a local restaurant and planned out an itinerary for us on Saturday. Our breakfast was delicious. After we packed up, we headed down the road to a couple towns from the 17 and 1800's...Waterford and Brunswick. One shop we stopped in had a room marked private with a curtain, when we walked past this is who peeked out: They are white boxers. The owner said you don't see them much because the breeders usually kill them to weed out the white haired ones from the gene pool! They are usually blind and/or deaf. But these two were perfect! I love boxers and one day when we can afford a yard I want one of these.
We ended up in Harper's Ferry, Maryland which is an old Civil War town. We saw some demonstrations and just walked around the town. It was a gorgeous weekend. We ran into some friends out there and had dinner together. We came home Saturday night feeling very relaxed and refreshed!

Todd and Amy met on September 8, 2001 at a seminary party...yep I said seminary party. Neither of us ever thought we'd marry, much less date a "Bible-dork" (Amy's words), but God surprised us with one another. After graduating from seminary, we were married. We love going into the city, doing new things, and hanging out with our friends. We bought our first home in December 2004 and are still loving it. We love this area, our church, and our new friends. And, we'd love for you to come visit us! Hope to see you soon!
